The Dallas Cowboys hit a new low Monday night, falling 34-10 to the Houston Texans in a game riddled with missteps and missed opportunities.
The Texans secured their first-ever win at AT&T Stadium, snapping a two-game losing streak and solidifying their position atop the AFC South.
Cowboys’ fake punt backfires… again
For the Cowboys, the unraveling began early.
Trailing 7-0 on their first possession, Dallas attempted a bold but ill-fated fake punt on fourth-and-9 from their own 33-yard line.
Punter Bryan Anger completed a pass to safety Juanyeh Thomas, but Houston’s John Metchie III tackled Thomas five yards short of the first-down marker.
The failed gamble left Dallas fans stunned and provided Houston with prime field position to extend their lead.
Injured quarterback Dak Prescott, watched from a luxury suite after being placed on season-ending IR earlier that day.
Prescott was caught on camera throwing his hands up in disbelief at the botched fake punt.
Despite the embarrassment, there were brief moments of hope for Dallas.
Cooper Rush connected with KaVonte Turpin for a 64-yard touchdown, the team’s first at home since Week 3.
However, MNF ended up giving the Cowboys’ fifth consecutive loss, their longest streak since 2015.
Joe Mixon leads Texans offense past Dallas
Texans running back Joe Mixon capitalized on the Cowboys’ blunders, finishing the game with three touchdowns and 109 rushing yards.
Houston built a commanding 14-0 lead in the first quarter, with their defense taking control for the rest of the night.
Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush was sacked five times, intercepted once, and lost a fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown.
While the Texans now eye a favorable schedule ahead, the Cowboys are left searching for answers in what has become a frustrating 3-6 season under head coach Mike McCarthy.
With playoff hopes dwindling, Dallas will need more than bold gambles to turn their season around.
