When Caitlin Clark headed to the Gainbridge FieldHouse to watch the Indiana Pacers take on the New Orleans Pelicans, she probably didn’t envisage becoming a meme. But that’s how it actually played out.
Clark watched Tyrese Haliburton star in the contest as she he lead the home side to a 114-110 victory in Indianapolis on November 24 by putting up 34 points, 13 assists and three rebounds as well as making three steals.
The NBA All-Star also made nine three-pointers in the win, worth 27 of his points, as he almost set his own record to the delight of the sold out venue and 22-year-old women’s basketball ace in the audience.
Clark celebrated enthusiastically when the point guard sunk his seventh three of the night, and that was quickly picked up by the Indiana Fever‘s social media team who posted her online with the caption, “she knows something about threes @caitlinclark22 celebrates @tyresehaliburton’s 7th triple of the evening.”
The WNBA Rookie of the Year threw out her thumb, index finger and middle finger on both hands to symbolize the three-point effort and quickly joked she could easily become a meme in the comments.
Clark is known for not taking herself too seriously as she is regularly spotted clowning around with her team, friends and boyfriend and now this shows that she has a shrewd sense of self-depreciating humor too.
Clark rejects Unrivaled league
One of the stories of the WNBA offseason has been whether the Fever’s Clark will join Napheesa Collier‘s Unrivaled League, which starts in January live on TNT Sports.
Reportedly offering her a deal worth a million dollars and a share of the TV revenue, the Minnesota Lynx star has made a huge effort to pull in the most popular player in women’s basketball at the moment.
But she was dealt some bad news as Clark opted to skip over the tournament, which will feature Angel Reese, by following in the footsteps of the Las Vegas Aces‘ and 2024 MVP, A’ja Wilson, by staying on the sidelines for reasons not yet known.
