No one saw it coming, but the Dallas Cowboys had one of the best wins of any team in Week 12. With their season virtually over following a brutal stretch of losses and Dak Prescott going down for the season, Dallas went into a road game against the Washington Commanders as double-digit underdogs. And yet, they came out victorious.
Prescott’s backup, Cooper Rush, played extremely well, while the much-maligned defense flustered rookie QB Jayden Daniels for most of the game. A late miracle touchdown by the Commanders nearly spoiled the party, but a missed extra point led to the Cowboys coming away with the win. It’s impossible to say this win will galvanize the team, as they’re still 4-7 and the team has several flaws, but it was a feel-good victory for the players and head coach Mike McCarthy. Winning is always good, but could this one actually be detrimental for Dallas?
Jerry Jones might give Mike McCarthy a contract extension
If Jerry Jones‘ post-win comments are anything to go by, fans will no be happy with what transpired. Jones is leaving open the opportunity to not only keep McCarthy following this season, but also give him a contract extension.
I don’t think that’s crazy at all. That’s not crazy. Listen, Mike McCarthy is an outstanding coach… This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there, done that. He’s got great ideas.
It’s safe to say that Cowboys fans haven’t taken these comments well. It hasn’t even been a year since the Cowboys were completely embarrassed in their own stadium in the first round of last season’s playoffs.
The team has also gotten trounced several times at home this season, giving up 44 points to the New Orleans Saints, 47 to the Detroit Lions and 34 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
