Khalen Saunders, a player for the New Orleans Saints, shares how his brother Kameron, known for being a popular backup dancer on Taylor Swift’sEras Tour, is improving his knowledge of football.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Khalen, 28, discusses how Kameron, 32, has been learning more about his brother’s sport and how their relationship has evolved over the years.
“Obviously, he’s been watching me for a long time,” says Khalen, who played alongside stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Saints.
“So, he just asks, ‘Who is that? Did he just get a sack? A touchdown?'” Khalen recalls, remembering how the brothers, along with their grandmother, would alternate between watching football games and the So You Think You Can Dance TV show.
The Saunders brothers are interested in each other’s field
Back then, Kameron was the one educating the family about the moves on the show’s choreography, and now Khalen says the situation has changed.
“When we get together now, that’s like our safe space,” Khalen explains.
“We turn on the game, and my brother asks me a thousand questions and he’s getting better,” he adds.
Khalen is proud to say that his brother is not only watching but also expanding his knowledge about the sport Khalen loves. “He’s getting better,” he assures, emphasizing Kameron’s effort and curiosity to learn.
However, football is not the only area where the Saunders brothers have influenced each other. Now that Kameron is a key figure in Taylor Swift’s global tour, Khalen is also learning from his brother’s experience.
“Yeah, yeah, I know that when they’re doing those turns, it’s not just spinning,” Khalen jokes with a laugh.
“I know what a pirouette is now, and I know because I took a picture he had me do a move where you kick your leg back and extend your arm. But yeah, I know some terms now,” he explains, highlighting how they’ve influenced each other in areas beyond their respective sports.
The new project of the Saunders brothers
Despite their busy schedules, the brothers decided to team up with Movember, a campaign promoting awareness about men’s mental health.
“It’s always a good thing to try and uplift people, to help the future generation to be healthier both physically and mentally,” says Khalen.
To promote the campaign, the brothers shared a fun video in which Kameron teaches Khalen a new victory dance for game days.
