Shane Gillis has a new favorite NBA player that nobody saw coming: “I get drunk and DM him”

It’s not easy to be liked in today’s day and age, especially if you’re a professional athlete. Even if you do everything right and have the right attitude, you will still have haters. So if you stray from the norm and act “out of character”, you are bound to have plenty of them. That’s definitely true in the NBA as much as other sports leagues. Even LeBron James gets a ton of criticism despite being the greatest basketball player of all-time in many fans’ eyes.

The insistence of many fans for the players to “stick to sports” has led to many athletes being afraid to truly speak their mind or act like they usually would off the court. One player who that doesn’t apply to at all is actually a rookie. 20-year-old Jared McCain was already a polarizing figure before he even got drafted to an NBA team. Known for painting his nails and posting TikToks of him dancing, McCain certainly doesn’t fit the mold of a traditional athlete, but he doesn’t care at all.

That may bother some people, but it’s actually admired by many others. One of those who admires McCain’s personality, and now his performance on the court, is renowned comedian Shane Gillis.

Shane Gillis loves 76ers rookie Jared McCain

During a recent episode of “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast“, Gillis somewhat randomly professed his love of the Philadelphia 76ers player.

There’s a bro I like right now. His anima is fully liberated. Jared McCain from the Sixers. He’s the guy doing the f***ing TikTok dances. His anima’s out. He does not care. He’s feminine, dude. He’s dropping 30 and doing TikToks, and everyone’s mad.

Gillis says he sends McCain direct messages, even while drunk, but the NBA player doesn’t respond. Gillis calls him “the man“, and goes on to say he’s been “dominating” since getting a chance at a bigger role.

The comedian isn’t joking, either. McCain has been outstanding since the first week of November. McCain has played an average of 34 minutes since November 8. During that stretch, he’s averaged 24.3 points per game, while shooting at a high clip from three-point range.
