Measuring 2.16 metres and weighing 150 kilograms has its limitations. But if you’re a mega-millionaire like Shaquille O’Neal, the problems are fewer. Even with the cars you want to drive but, because of your size and weight, you can’t get in
The NBA superstar, champion with the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers legend, has had to use a little imagination to be able to enjoy his latest whim: an electric sedan unknown in Europe but famous in the United States: the Lucid Air.
It is a luxury electric car that, in terms of length (4.97 metres), could fit a giant like Shaq-Attack. However, not in its conventional four-door configuration. That’s why the legendary Lakers’ ’34’ has commissioned West Coast Customs to make a ‘fix’ that will make life and driving a little easier.
The solution? Convert the Lucid Air into a two-door. And if you have to delay the central pillar, remove the two rear doors and create two new longer ones… so be it. The video posted on Instagram by the customizers shows it in its entirety.
Electric and diesel
Shaquille O’Neal’s Lucid Air customization has gone from the most ‘fat’ – as is the transformation of a four-door into a coupe – to the smallest detail. But this particularity is still curious.
Because on the front of his customized car, instead of reading Lucid, you can see the legend ‘Diesel’. This, logically, has nothing to do with diesel, but refers to one of the first nicknames of the Lakers’ center
That nickname – which O’Neal has tattooed on one of his shoulders – refers precisely to the strength of diesel engines, a quality that also identifies the four-time NBA champion as a player (Shaq Diesel was, in fact, the title of his first rap album)
It’s ironic that the first thing you see in an electric car is the word Diesel, but I’m sure O’Neal also wanted to play with that. What is certain is that the power of Lucid Air will remind him and even surpass the torque delivery of diesel models, although Shaq already knows that because he recently bought a Tesla Cybertruck.
