Leaked chats show Drake dramatically namedropped the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James by trying to highlight the complexities Canadian rapper’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group in his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
Screenshots show the God’s Plan singer mentioning the 40-year-old four-time NBA champion as the 38-year-old discussed his ongoing legal against UMG, by saying the situation is like if Nike said LeBron is cheating on Savannah.
The 38-year-old is currently accuses UMG of defamation for failing to stop Lamar releasing Not Like Us, in which he was accused of being a sexual predator and a pedophile in Lamar‘s follow-up diss track to Meet the Grahams.
“Me and Universal is like if Nike was funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife,” the alleged conversation by Drake reads. “Everybody before me that tried the label was too eccentric so they wrote them off as crazy and they never had to pay for their sins and mistakes.”
Why did Drake make the LeBron comparison?
Drake also claims UMG funnelled payments to iHeartRadio as a pay-to-play scheme to promote Not Like Us, as well as illegally boosting the track on Spotify.
UMG denies the accusations and they are the label who Drake had spent his entire career with until the feud broke out, which is why he made the comparison to James.
James has been partnered with Nike since 2003 and the pair have had an exceptional relationship together, which has helped the Laker become a billionaire. There is no evidence he has cheated on Savannah, who he married in 2013.
