Mike McCarthy’s future could take a surprising turn with the emergence of another team interested in him

The future of Dallas Cowboys coach could change direction and head to the Gulf of Mexico once his contract with the team expires on January 14.

After Dallas rejected the Chicago Bears’ request to interview McCarthy, there is a new team that has shown interest in talking to the coach.

And while there is talk of the possibility of a new negotiation between the coach and the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, the name of another team from the National Conference begins to sound on McCarthy’s radar, reported totalprosports.com.

McCarthy a good option for the Saints

The New Orleans Saints are on the hunt for a new coach, and it looks like Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is the man to take over the Louisiana team, although it would not be a surprise if McCarthy’s name begins to be mentioned.

According to ESPN, the Saints are interested in talking to the coach who won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers to try to turn around the Saints’ poor seasons in the wake of coach Sean Payton’s departure in 2021.

McCarthy is 49-35 since 2020 with Dallas, and although he was able to string together three consecutive 12-win seasons, he has only been able to win one postseason game (2022), leaving the Cowboys short of their goal of returning to a Super Bowl for the first time since the 1995 season.

Despite everything, the coach has given his teams a good level on offense, both with the Cowboys and the Packers. McCarthy’s teams have finished with the league’s number one scoring offense four times and in the top five 11 times.

However, McCarthy will always be limited in decision-making as long as Jones remains the Cowboys’ general manager, so he could make a decision that does not depend on Jones, and change scenery to have more freedom in the movements of his team.
