Stadium Goods is closing its New York City store after nearly a decade. Located at 47 Howard Street in SoHo, the store has been a go-to spot for rare and highly sought-after sneakers for many years.
According to the company’s senior vice president and general manager, the decision came as the lease was ending. Revealing to Footwear News:
“The lease term was coming up and we decided not to renew. Our business is primarily through digital channels, so that’s where Stadium Goods is focusing investment to drive growth.”
The SoHo store, opened on October 16, 2015, was founded by John McPheters and Jed Stiller. In 2022, it was renovated to expand to 2,860 square feet, with an entrance added at 305 Canal Street.
Stadium Goods was acquired by Farfetch Limited for $250 million in 2018, and Farfetch itself was later sold to South Korean company Coupang in 2022 for $500 million.
As Stadium Goods focuses on e-commerce, the closure of its iconic SoHo store marks the end of an era for sneaker enthusiasts and raises concerns for a declining sneaker market.
The store will be closing in the coming weeks.
