Brooklyn Nets’Ben Simmons recently opened up about a difficult chapter in his career, revealing he considered retiring from the NBA while rehabbing a back injury. On the Young Man and the Three podcast, the 28-year-old guard shared that the physically and mentally taxing process of recovering from a pinched nerve in his lower back had him questioning his future in basketball.
Simmons, who underwent two back surgeries in three years, explained that the toll on his body and mind was overwhelming. “There were times, last summer, when I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this. I might have to stop playing,'” Simmons confessed.
Despite these challenges, Simmons credited his strong support system and inner resolve for helping him push through the tough rehabilitation process. “I had to bring that up in conversation, and think about it, just because physically it’s tough, but mentally it’s just so hard to return from an injury like that, and go through the process of rehabbing a second summer in a row,” he remarked.
