Caitlin Clark’s decision to turn down the NBA’s invitation to All-Star Weekend continues to be felt, with one podcast apologizing after she was convinced the Indiana Fever star would take part.
Representatives of the 23-year-old stated that Clark wants her first three-point contest to come at the WNBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, which is why she turned down the opportunity to take part in a special challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend.
The NBA was looking to have Clark take part in a contest similar to one last year which saw Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry beat the New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu in an NBA vs WNBA three-point challenge.
Curry and Ionescu have discussed the possibility of bringing back the contest this year in a different format, but either way, Clark won’t be part of it.
As a result, Courtside Club host Rachel Annamarie DeMita was forced to apologize after she previously stated that Clark would take part.
“I am coming to you with the sincerest of apologies. Because I was definitely spreading fake news last week. That was unlike me. But I was so sure of this one thing, and boy was I wrong,” she said.
More to Clark’s decision?
DeMita also pointed to another reason why Clark may have turned down the opportunity, noting to her inexperience when it comes to shooting off a rack.
“Y’know what, we never see Caitlin shooting off of a rack.” DeMita said, referring to a talk she had with her friend.
“She’s great off the dribble, going to her left hand, shooting long threes. She obviously has the ability. We’ve seen her make 50 out of 54 shots. But he expressed that concern as well that it’s very different shooting off of a rack. It definitely takes a little bit of practice.”
She also made it clear that Clark’s personality is one where she only does things if she can win, which may have also played a part in her decision to turn the offer down.
“From what we have seen in her workouts and all these different types of things, Caitlin is, I don’t know her personally, she seems like the type of person,” she said.
“If she’s gonna do this contest, she wants to win it. She seems psychotic, she seems to have that Kobe mentality.”
