Public opinion has turned against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in recent months and Rob Gronkowski thinks he knows where the blame lies for their disappointing NFL season.

Jones has often been very quick to take credit for whatever is going right with the Cowboys, but now some of his decisions over the finances have led to criticism.

The reasoning behind Mike McCarthy‘s departure from the role as Cowboys coach caused a lot of problems with the fans, as Jones is very reluctant to pay what it takes to have the best players and coaches on the team.

Gronkowski is siding with the fans on this occasion and thinks that Jones has made some wrong calls.

Speaking on the Dudes on Dudes podcast, Gronkowski and Julian Edelman were talking about how well the Washington Commanders were doing with Dan Quinn as their head coach. Quinn was defensive coordinator on the Cowboys for three seasons.

“If you look at it, why the Cowboys were 12 and five over the last couple years. I mean without him being with the Dallas Cowboys they absolutely tanked this year on the defensive side of the ball. Even Michael Parsons brought up that they missed Dan Quinn throughout this season as well,” Gronkowski said.

When Dan Quinn was going to the Commanders, Jones told him: “That’s such an important fan base. Dan, you’re the right man for that.”

Why did Mike McCarthy leave the Cowboys?

In terms of why McCarthy walked away from the Cowboys, reports have suggested that the coach wanted a five-year extension, but Jones was only willing to commit to three years.

That negotiation never got sorted and McCarthy eventually walked away, which left the Cowboys hoping that their offensive coordinator could step up into the role and do what McCarthy did.

Once again, the unwillingness of Jones to put his hand in his pocket led to the Cowboys taking a step back in their pursuit of the Super Bowl.
