The most amazing explanation for the Warriors’ Jimmy Butler trade: They wanted Taylor Swift but ended up with Nicki Minaj

Kendrick Perkins has offered up an amusing explanation as to how the Jimmy Butler trade went down for the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA world was rocked by recent develops that saw Jimmy Butler be traded from the Miami Heat to the Warriors, and the Heat received Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round pick. Additionally, Butler has agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with the Warriors, securing his presence in the Bay Area through the 2026-27 season.

Butler‘s departure from Miami is significant, given his role in leading the team to two NBA Finals appearances.

While his time with the Heat was marked by on-court success, it was also marred by off-court controversies that eventually led to his trade. His move to the Warriors represents a fresh start for both Butler and the Heat organization.

Minaj rather than Swift

On ESPNs NBA Today program, analyst Perkins shared his thoughts on the trade and he turned to the world of pop music to make his point.

“The Warriors‘ ceiling with Jimmy Butler right now is a first-round exit, okay? Listen. I was looking for the Warriors. I’m thinking that they’re going to go out there and, you know, go get a Beyonce or Taylor Swift. They end up getting a Nicki Minaj. And that’s OK. But that’s not Barbie’s gonna get ya boy…”

Butler helped get the Heat to two NBA Finals, meaning he had a successful time there but has now departed in a manner that will leave some Heat fans confused as to what his legacy really is.

As part of his announcement, Butler said: “Yo Dub Nation! Jimmy Butler here. Just touched own to do this physical. Super excited. Ready to win. Ready to work. Ready to put on a show for y’all. Let’s get it. Championship coming soon.”
