The Kansas City Chiefs are choosing to quickly focus on the future after their recent Super Bowl LIX loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs were attempting to win their third Super Bowl in a row, something that has never been done before, but the Eagles turned up in New Orleans and dominated the play.
The disappointment for the Chiefs was clear at the end of the contest at Caesars Superdome, but they are now trying to ensure they are in the Super Bowl again next season.
Acting swiftly, the Chiefs are expected to hire Matt House as their new defensive assistant, according to CBS Sports.
House has spent the last three seasons on the Kentucky football staff. As explained by journalist Matt Zenitz on X: “A return to Kansas City for House, who won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019. Worked for the Jaguars last year after two seasons as LSU’s defensive coordinator.”
House has worked with current Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo before, spending three seasons with him the St. Louis Rams as a quality control assistant from 2009-11.
Pressure on Andy Reid
Some have called for head coach Andy Reid to resign following the big defeat, with FOX reporter Rob Parker saying: “Andy Reid should step down as head coach of the Chiefs… This fall off the cliff is 2 years in the making.
“When I see greatness, I will embrace it. I didn’t see greatness with this team the last 2 years. I know they won the Super Bowl last year, but they weren’t a great team until they won the Super Bowl. They were bad.
“I refused to buy into their 15-2 record. You guys laughed at me! I said, he turned into Daniel Jones. I don’t think Daniel Jones would have played that bad yesterday. Patrick Mahomes has had two stinkers in the Super Bowl! I’m not always right. I’m wrong sometimes. I am right quite often, and I was right about this fraudulent Kansas City Chiefs team.”
