Despite reaching a third successive Super Bowl during the 2024 season, the campaign wasn’t always smooth sailing for Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Sure, the Chiefs claimed the AFC‘s top seed with a 15-2 record, but Kansas City rode their luck in a number of close wins and — upon reaching Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans — were soundly defeated by the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, bringing an end to the Chiefs‘ dreams of securing the NFL‘s first-ever three-peat.
Things got difficult away from the gridiron, too. There was joy in Mahomes‘ life, as his wife Brittany gave birth to their third child last month, but the family suffered a burglary in midseason…just as Kelce did, amid his blossoming romance with pop superstar Taylor Swift. However, a key recent development is sure to bring peace of mind to the two star players amid speculation that their time together might be winding down.
Arrests made in burglary ring that affected Chiefs
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Middle District Florida on Tuesday announced the arrest of seven Chilean nationals who had been sought in connection with the theft ring that impacted Kelce, Mahomes, and other NFL and NBA athletes.
Prosecutors claim that the seven individuals took up to $2 million in valuables from their escapades, which included the Oct. 5 burglary of the Mahomes estate in Belton, Missouri and a break-in at Kelce’s Leawood, Kansas home two days later.
Jewelry, watches, cash, and other luxury merchandise were the goods that the alleged thieves targeted during their break-ins, and the seven men have been charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property.
The news surely will be welcomed by Kelce, Mahomes, and their loved ones as they seek to move on from the thefts and this month’s heavy loss in Super Bowl LIX. The Chiefs could experience some upheaval this offseason amid speculation that Kelce is going to retire or see his role significantly reduced in 2025, but one thing is for sure: this experience is one of many that brought Kelce and Mahomes closer together.
