Could the Cowboys land Davante Adams? A game-changing move ahead

The New York Jets have officially informed Aaron Rodgers that they’re heading in a new direction at quarterback, signaling the beginning of a rebuild. With this shift, the future of star wide receiver Davante Adams appears uncertain, making him a prime candidate for a trade. At 32 years old, Adams is unlikely to remain with a team focused on rebuilding, especially given his desire to compete at a high level elsewhere.

Adams joined the Jets midseason via a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, Rodgers. The duo showed flashes of brilliance, with Adams recording 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in just 11 games. However, their efforts weren’t enough to elevate the Jets’ offense significantly. With Rodgers on his way out, Adams’ departure seems inevitable, and the trade block could soon be his next destination.

Awful play! Aaron Rodgers’ last pass with Davante Adams

One team that would benefit immensely from acquiring Adams is the Dallas Cowboys, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 7-10 season in 2024. Owner Jerry Jones has emphasized an “all-in” approach for improving the roster, and bringing in a six-time Pro Bowler like Adams would be a game-changing move.

For years, Dallas has struggled to find a reliable No. 2 receiver to complement Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Adding Adams to the mix could instantly transform the Cowboys’ receiving corps into one of the league’s most formidable duos.

The missing piece for Prescott?

Dallas’ problem for three years now has been the lack of a stud No. 2 receiver to help the Dak Prescott-CeeDee Lamb connection,” notes one source. Adams, a future Hall of Famer, could fill that void and elevate the Cowboys’ offense to elite status.

The Jets’ asking price for Adams may not be exorbitant, especially if they’re unable to secure a trade partner and consider releasing him outright. Dallas could offer a 2025 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2026 fourth-rounder that could escalate to a third-round selection based on Adams’ performance. This low-risk, high-reward deal would allow Jones to address a glaring need while giving Prescott another elite weapon.

At worst, as suggested by analysts, “Jones would be giving up two mid-round selections for a future Hall of Famer who should produce at a Pro Bowl level for at least two more seasons.” For Dallas, this move could be the missing piece in their quest for playoff success.
