The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly exploring the possibility of trading both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk as they look to reshape their roster for the future.
While Samuel had already requested a trade at the end of the season, a new report suggests that Aiyuk might also be on the move.
49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk Carted Off After Collision Before Halftime
Aiyuk’s uncertain future in San Francisco
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed that the 49ers are open to offers for Aiyuk, raising questions about the team’s long-term plans at wide receiver. Aiyuk had a breakout season in 2023, racking up 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. His strong performance earned him a four-year, $120 million extension, but his 2024 campaign was cut short by a torn ACL in Week 7.
Before signing his extension, Aiyuk briefly held out of training camp, and his early-season struggles were evident as he dropped five passes in the first seven weeks. Despite his injury, teams around the league could be interested in acquiring the talented 26-year-old playmaker.
Deebo Samuel’s trade request
General manager John Lynch confirmed at the NFL Combine that the organization is willing to honor Samuel’s request for a trade. While Lynch praised Samuel’s playmaking ability and impact, he acknowledged that parting ways with the 29-year-old might be inevitable.
Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz has reported that the Houston Texans and Washington Commanders are among the teams interested in Samuel, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos also checking in.
The 49ers’ offensive outlook
If both Samuel and Aiyuk depart, San Francisco’s passing game could lean heavily on tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who had a career-high 975 receiving yards in 2024. The 49ers also hold seven picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, giving them the opportunity to restock their receiver room.
Samuel, known for his versatility, has totaled 5,935 scrimmage yards and 42 touchdowns since being drafted in 2019. However, his production dipped in 2024, averaging a career-low 44.7 receiving yards per game.
With both Aiyuk and Samuel potentially on the trade block, the 49ers‘ offense could look very different in the 2025 season. The team’s willingness to listen to trade offers signals a shift toward a younger roster, leaving fans eager to see what moves San Francisco will make next.
