Jimmy Butler sued over unpaid rent and property damage in Miami

Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler is facing legal trouble after being sued for allegedly failing to pay $260,000 in rent and causing over $127,000 in damages to a luxury rental property in Miami Beach, Florida.

The lawsuit, filed last week in Florida’s 11th Circuit Court by Five Star Marketing and Promotions, Inc., claims that Butler failed to pay two months of rent at $130,000 per month for the high-end home. According to Realtor.com, the contemporary-style property, built in 2016, features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool, and a canal-side location, with an estimated value of $10 million.

Allegations of property damage and contract violations

Beyond the unpaid rent, the lawsuit accuses Butler of making unauthorized modifications to the home. The filing states that he changed the locks and refused to provide a key to the property owner, which prevented maintenance workers from entering. Additionally, Butler allegedly neglected the upkeep of the pool and air conditioning system, leading to severe mold damage that required ceiling and floor replacements.

The plaintiff is seeking a total of $257,282 in unpaid rent and damages, along with the right to retain Butler’s $130,000 security deposit.

Butler remains silent on the lawsuit

Butler, who was recently traded from the Miami Heat to the Warriors after requesting a move, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. Despite being one of the highest-paid players on the Warriors, second only to Steph Curry, this legal battle raises questions about his off-court responsibilities as he transitions to his new team.
