The hamstring injury that has plagued Dak Prescott and ruled him out of the 2024 season has generated uncertainty about his performance on his return.
The quarterback was operated on last November, in what was his fourth surgery since 2020. It should be remembered that in 2022 he missed five games due to a fracture in his right thumb and after that season he underwent surgery on his left shoulder.
Josh Allen had some words for Dak Prescott after signing huge contract extension
Recently, the Dallas Cowboys strengthened their roster with Parris Campbell, a receiver who was a champion with the Eagles, who has yet to reach 1,000 yards in a season. The former free agent signed a one-year contract with Dallas. His best year was 2022, with 623 yards, but at 27 years old he is still looking for that elusive breakthrough.
In light of this, many doubts have arisen as to whether they will hire a backup quarterback in case Prescott shows limited performance if he is the starting quarterback. Even NFL Network expert Ian Rapoport revealed that “The Cowboys could draft a quarterback to back up Dak Prescott“.
Rumors of a backup quarterback for Prescott are dispelled
However, Rapoport’s claims were quickly refuted by Clarence Hill Jr., who dismissed that possibility for the Dallas Cowboys.
Essentially Sports points out that Hill, a journalist specializing in the Cowboys, took up the subject on X, by sharing the video of Rapoport where he pointed out that the Cowboys could get a new quarterback from the draft.
“There is no chance the Cowboys will take a quarterback in the second or third round. They have too many pressing needs and an urgency to win now,” he said bluntly on the social network.
It’s only been six months since Dak Prescott signed a record $60 million-a-year extension, before the injury that ended his 2024 season
Rapoport said the Cowboys could choose someone like Quinn Ewers in the second round, if he is still available. However, for now they are just rumors and we will have to see how Prescott evolves and how limited he might be on his return.
