Star scouring eBay for old cans of Aqua Net hairspray and animal print scarves because Universal Pictures is taking audiences back in time to Bon Jovi‘s formative years for an in-depth biopic. According to Deadline, multiple studios wanted to get their hands on the project, with Universal ultimately winning the prize.
What Will the Biopic Focus On?
Deadline says the Bon Jovi biopic focuses on the early years of the quartet’s storied career, from its humble New Jersey beginnings to producing anthems and packing out stadiums across the globe. Jon Bon Jovi is a part of the film’s creative process and will give the filmmakers and studio access to the band’s extensive music library.
Playing the Hits
If you’re too young to remember the height of Bon Jovi fever, the band released hits like ‘Livin’ on a Prayer,’ ‘You Give Love a Bad Name,’ ‘Runaway,’ ‘Wanted Dead or Alive,’ ‘Thank You For Loving Me,’ and more. Cody Brotter (Drudge) will write the screenplay. Brotter’s most recent gig is rewriting the script for Doug Liman’s upcoming crypto thriller Killing Satoshi. Kevin J. Walsh (Manchester By The Sea) and Gotham Chopra, whose Religion of Sports produced Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, will produce the upcoming Bon Jovi biopic.
Deadline says the Bon Jovi biopic will cover the band’s matriculation through Slippery When Wet, its third album, which includes the songs ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ and ‘You Give Love A Bad Name.’ The album sold more than 30 million copies, labeling Bon Jovi a monster stadium-worthy act.

Oh, Bon Jovi. I remember hearing their hits through the closed door of my older sister’s bedroom. She was obsessed with Bon Jovi, alongside bands like Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Aerosmith, Skid Row, Poison, and more. High hair, leather pants, flowing scarves, and open bars were all the rage when Bon Jovi was at the height of its popularity. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing one of their songs blasting from a nearby radio, local stations (especially in the tri-state area) playing the band’s songs on repeat. I once worked construction for a summer, tearing down a house, and Bon Jovi was 80% of the soundtrack for that job.
