It has been seven years since former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez tragically died after taking his own life in his prison cell after being sentenced for a crime of passion. But it seems that the family tragedy did not end there.
On Thursday, his brother Dennis Jonathan Hernandez, known as DJ Hernandez, was arrested and pleaded guilty to planning a shooting on the University of Connecticut (UConn) campus.
According to People magazine, court documents state that the 38-year-old Dennis“made multiple statements threatening to carry out a shooting” at UConn through several messages posted on his Facebook Messenger to a person whose identity has not been disclosed. “His car was even spotted at the university on July 7, 2023,” the documents state
The investigation adds that DJ Hernandez made “several Facebook posts” in which he threatened to “hurt or kill three individuals,” including a judge who lived outside the state of Connecticut.
He was later arrested on July 19 of that year by Bristol police, accused of planning shootings at UConn and Brown University, according to a report by TMZ. The motive for his plan is unknown at this time
Years earlier, between 2011 and 2012, DJ Hernandez worked as a quarterbacks coach for the Brown University team and in his college days played for UConn. He also played football for the University of Connecticut.
However, he has been pointed out by several people for showing “erratic behaviour” and signs of “being a danger to society”.
Aaron Hernandez’s brother sentenced
Now, DJ Hernandez will have to appear in court again on February 6, to be sentenced.
His brother Aaron Hernandez had some very bright years with the New England Patriots, but hanged himself with a sheet in his cell in 2017 after being sentenced to life in prison for plotting the murder of footballer Odin Lloyd, the boyfriend of the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, with whom the then 27-year-old footballer had a daughter.
