Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the New York Jets, has hinted at his potential plans for the 2025 NFL season, despite the speculation that he is set to leave the team at the end of the season.
In his latest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers stated he hasn’t decided whether to play next year.
“New York would be my first option,” Rodgers told The Pat McAfee show.
His return in the Big Apple would depend on several factors, including his health and alignment with the team’s new leadership, following significant organizational changes, many of which have been blamed on Rodgers himself.
New York Jets continue to search for an identity
This season has been challenging for both Rodgers and the Jets. After his Achilles injury cut the 2023 season short, Rodgers returned with renewed playoff hopes.
However, a series of setbacks, including ankle and knee issues, has limited his performance, and the Jets have slumped to a 3-8 record.
These struggles contributed to the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, setting the stage for an offseason overhaul, which many believe can’t include a 41-year-old quarterback.
Rodgers acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future, noting the need for alignment with the incoming coaching staff and management.
Despite the difficulties, the quarterback remains optimistic about the Jets‘ potential. The addition of Davante Adams, his longtime teammate, has strengthened the roster, but consistency has been elusive under interim leadership.
Turning 41 soon, Rodgers is weighing his ability to handle the demands of another season against his desire to lead the Jets forward. His decision will hinge on whether both he and the organization feel confident about his role in their plans for 2025.
While his path remains undecided, Rodgers emphasized his connection to New York and the promise of what the Jets could achieve.
