Aaron Rodgers, despite a rough start to his time with the New York Jets, has made it clear that he plans to remain with the team for the foreseeable future.
The 41-year-old quarterback, who was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets in 2023, recently renovated his home in New Jersey, signaling his intent to settle in the area for several more years.
Rodgers’ first season with the Jets was cut short by an Achilles injury, and in 2024, the team is struggling with a 3-9 record. Their latest loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13 marked their ninth consecutive losing season, extending the longest active streak in the NFL.
However, despite these challenges, Rodgers has remained determined to fulfill his goal of leading the Jets to a successful season.
“I just redid my house here in Jersey,” Rodgers said.
“My goal was to play a few more years here. We’ll see. I’d like to be healthy, I’d like to end on my feet. I’d like to play well and feel like I’m wanted back.
“If not, I will not be offended, I won’t be upset. I’ll be so thankful either way whatever happens here.”
Rodgers clarifies rumors about him leaving the Jets
In response to recent reports suggesting he might leave New York, Rodgers set the record straight during his appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. He clarified that he has never expressed a desire to leave the Jets.
“I haven’t told anybody in my life, ‘I want to play in 2025 and not in the Jets.’ That’s 100 percent false. I actually said the opposite. I’m going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season and if they want me back,” Rodgers told the Pat McAfee show.
Rodgers also spoke positively about his time in New York, despite the team’s struggles.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time in New York,” he shared.
“Obviously, we haven’t had the success we’ve all wanted, but I’ve made some great friendships in the team… I came here to win here, so I’m not jumping off ship like, ‘I definitely want to play and not in New York.’ New York would be my first option.”
As the Jets prepare to face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Rodgers remains focused on turning the team’s fortunes around. His dedication to New York is clear, and he hopes to continue building on his time with the Jets, despite the challenges.
