It’s not every day that a Chicago Bear and a, albeit former, Green Bay Packer legend find common ground, but for Adrian Colbert and Aaron Rodgers, their recent experience in Costa Rica did just that. The two NFL stars, alongside Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer and others, embarked on a three-night retreat that centered around the use of ayahuasca, a powerful psychedelic known for its transformative effects.
The journey, which was documented in the newly released Netflix film, “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma”, revealed that the experience profoundly impacted Colbert’s outlook on life.
During a candid interview on “TMZ Live”, the 31-year-old defensive back reflected on the trip, calling it a pivotal moment in his personal growth.
From anger to love
Before his experience with ayahuasca, Colbert admitted that much of his drive came from a need to prove his doubters wrong.

“I was once driven off of anger and how can I prove other people wrong for doubting me?” he shared. But after the experience, he said he discovered a new path-one fueled by love, not resentment.
“I come from a place of love now,” Colbert said.
The shift in his mindset has had a noticeable impact on his life, with Colbert embracing a new sense of peace and self-acceptance.
His revelation echoes the broader spiritual and emotional insights that many users of ayahuasca report after undergoing the ceremonial experience.
This isn’t the first time Aaron Rodgers has spoken about his affinity for ayahuasca. The four-time NFL MVP has been open about his use of the psychedelic, attributing it to helping him achieve clarity, inner peace, and self-awareness. In fact, Rodgers credited his initial experience with ayahuasca as one of the key factors in his MVP-level performance in 2020 and 2021.
On the retreat in Costa Rica, Rodgers appears to have taken on a guiding role for the group. According to Colbert, Rodgers’ reflections and words of wisdom during the ceremony played a major part in his personal growth. The former Packers quarterback, now playing for the New York Jets, encouraged Colbert to “surrender” – a message that clearly resonated with him.
