Skip Bayless had strong words for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes by insisting it was the right decision to overlook him for a Pro Bowl selection because the 29-year-old’s season ‘sucks’.

The three-time Super Bowl champion has previously been named to six Pro Bowls and all consecutively since the end of his rookie year in 2017, but for 2024 it was Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow honored ahead of him.

“I’ve been saying this for a month now,” Bayless said on his show. “By his standards, Patrick Mahomes had a lousy regular season. His second straight lousy regular season.

“No way, this time, did Patrick Mahomes belong on the Pro Bowl team. No way this time did he have a better regular season than Josh Allen, or Lamar Jackson, or Joe Burrow.”

That’s despite Mahomes passing for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns whilst rushing for an additional 307 yards for two touchdowns in a pretty beleaguered Kansas offense that has spent most of the season without Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice, his two lead wide receivers.

He also had to deal with an out-of-sorts Travis Kelce at tight end and was without Isiah Pacheco, his lead running back, from Week 2 to Week 13 which essentially forced him to stick with the passing game.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Chief’s iron defense showed signs of bending, while Mahomes found himself sacked 36 times in the 2024/25 campaign, but despite the challenges faced, Bayless isn’t interested as he heaps the praise on Steve Spagnuolo.

“Let’s look at Kansas City’s defense, which is the real reason Kansas City is 15-1,” Bayless continued. “[It] ranks second in points allowed in the entire NFL.

“Josh Allen’s Buffalo defense is 11th in points allowed. Lamar’s Ravens defense is 13th in points allowed. And Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati defense is near the bottom, at 29th in points allowed. that’s really all you need to know.”
