Javier Aguirre presented a list that combines familiar names with some new ones, marking differences from previous call-ups.
With just a few months to go before a new World Cup process, the “Vasco” is beginning to shape a team with variations, looking for alternatives in different positions.
Javier Aguirre speaks about the importance of hosting the World Cup
Players not born in Mexico are once again at the center of the debate
One of the most striking points of the squad is the presence of six players not born on Mexican soil, a topic that has generated debate among fans.
Among the names are Julian Quinones and Alvaro Fidalgo, as well as players such as Obed Vargas, Brian Gutierrez, German Berterame and Richard Ledezma.
The inclusion of these players reflects the coaching staff’s openness to international profiles with eligibility for El Tri.
Youthful presence and balanced average age
The squad also includes five U-23 players, which brings freshness to the squad. Among them are Obed Vargas and Brian Gutierrez, who are in both categories.
Despite the generational mix, the team has an average age of 26 years and 10 months, combining experience with youth.
Also noteworthy is the return of Guillermo Ochoa, whose last appearance for the national team was in November 2024.
Key midfield absences due to injury
The team will not have the starting midfield that won the Gold Cup, due to the absence of Edson Alvarez, Marcel Ruiz and Gilberto Mora, all out through injury.
These absences force Aguirre to rethink the way the central area of the field works.
A midfield with less physical stature
Another striking aspect is the physical profile of the midfield, where none of those called up are over 1.80m tall
Players such as Orbelin Pineda, Carlos Rodriguez and Erick Sanchez stand out for their technique and mobility, but they show a team that is lower compared to other international rivals.
