Alan Ritchson faces a deadly force that’s beyond our comprehension in the trailer for the action sci-fi thriller War Machine

Today, Netflix is proud to present a thrilling trailer for War Machine, a sci-fi action movie directed by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), starring Alan Ritchson (Playdate, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Fast X), Dennis Quaid (The Substance, Broke), Richard Cotta (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad, A Good Day to Die Hard), Esai Morales (Simone, How to Get Away with Murder), Joshua Diaz (Brilliant Minds, Fantasy Island), and more.

What’s War Machine about?

In addition to directing the film, Hughes co-wrote the screenplay with James Beaufort (Machine). The logline reads: “In the final 24 Hours of the world’s toughest selection process, a team of Army Rangers encounter a threat beyond their imagination.” War Machine is being produced by Todd Lieberman and Alex Young of Hidden Pictures as well as Hughes via his banner, Huge Film.

Per THR“Ritchson is the lead Ranger candidate with James, Courtney, Richardson, Lonsdale, and Webber playing other aspirants who themselves in way over their heads. Quaid and Morales will play commanding officers.” Executive Producers on the film include Valerie Bleth Sharp, Rich Cook of Range Media Partners, and Greg McLean of Huge Film. Netflix had purchased the project from Lionsgate, the studio that was previously developing it.

Thoughts about today’s War Machine trailer

In Netflix’s new trailer for War Machine, Alan Ritchson’s 81 and a team of Rangers encounter a bizarre craft that looks like something out of Robocop, but on steroids. Once the team recognizes the threat they face, they must abandon traditional tactics and weapons if they have any hope of taking down the mysterious weapon. As all hell breaks loose, 81 and his fellow soldiers run for their lives, regroup, and attempt to discover their enemy’s weakness before it lays them to waste and sets its sights on the rest of the world’s population. In a way, elements of War Machine remind me of Predator, with a group of soldiers facing an unknown, deadly force. The group is seemingly outmatched, but if they summon their training, go back to basics, and outsmart the foreign technology, some of them could walk out of the conflict alive. Additionally, let’s not confuse this year’s War Machine with Netflix’s other film of the same name, a satirical war drama directed by David Michôd and starring Brad Pitt.

I like Alan Ritchson, and I have a Netflix subscription, so I’ll check this out. I’m struggling with how much the craft looks like a Robocop villain, but that could be a good thing. What do you think about today’s War Machine trailer? Let us know in the comments section below.
