An old tweet from LeBron James has gone viral after news broke that the Los Angeles Lakers are actively pursuing Dan Hurley, the head coach of the University of Connecticut, for their next head coaching position.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have initiated preliminary talks with Hurley and are expected to intensify these discussions soon.
Hurley’s coaching prowess and enthusiasm for the game have garnered significant attention, including from LeBron James, who could soon be playing under his guidance.
A few weeks ago, James tweeted about Hurley following the coach’s appearance on NBA analyst JJ Redick‘s podcast, “The Old Man & The Three.”
He’s so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their O! Love it

“He’s so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their O! Love it,” LeBron wrote on X.
The tweet demonstrated James‘s appreciation for Hurley‘s coaching capabilities. Hurley has led UConn to an impressive record over six seasons, boasting a .709 winning percentage with 141 wins and 58 losses, including securing back-to-back championships in the past two years.
LeBron’s future remains uncertain
The potential hiring of Hurley by the Lakers could play a significant role in influencing James‘ free agency decision. Hurley‘s successful tenure at UConn might be a compelling factor for James to consider staying with the Lakers.
LeBron, for the first time since 2018, has the option to enter free agency. With a $51.4 million player option with the Lakers, he must decide by June 29 whether to accept or decline. If he chooses to opt out, James would become a free agent and could entertain offers from other teams.
