The rivalry between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs continues after Patrick Mahomes’ team once again came out on the winning end in the AFC Championship game.
Unfortunately for Mahomes and teammates, Super Bowl LIX didn’t go to plan after suffering a heavy defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now in the offseason, both the Chiefs, as well as the Bills, have shifted their focus to making improvement in hopes of wining the final game of next season.
The Chiefs will no doubt be looking to add to the defensive side of the ball after defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton and safety Justin Reid left for the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints respectively.
As a result the Chiefs and Andy Reid have seemingly turned their attention to Florida State Seminoles defensive tackle Joshua Farmer ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, it appears Sean McDermott and the Bills are also interested in bolstering a defense that gave up 4.51 yards per rush.
“I talk to the Bills and Kansas City every day. They say I’m the most versatile (defensive tackle in the draft),” Farmer recently stated.
Farmer was productive at Florida State
Farmer spent four years in college, recording two defended passes, 11 sacks and 80 tackles (32 solo). It’s no surprise then that teams are keeping a close eye on him ahead of the draft.
One thing working in favour of the Bills is that they hold the No.30 pick at the draft, while the Chiefs sit at No.31, making the chess game between the two teams that much more interesting.
In the meantime, the Bills have been busy keeping some of their key players in Buffalo, locking up cornerback Christian Benford to a four-year, $76 million contract.
“Love Christian and excited he’ll be back this season, and we’ll see if it works out now, later, down the road, to keep him here,” GM Brandon Beane said.
The new deal puts Benford among the top 15 players for the position. Before Benford, theBills also signed defensive end Greg Rousseau to a four-year, $84 million contract and linebacker Terrel Bernard to a four-year, $50 million extension.
