Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is offering his support and encouragement to wide receiver Skyy Moore as he strives to secure a roster spot during training camp.
Entering his third season with the team, Moore is facing stiff competition in a crowded and talented wide receivers room.
Andy Reid: Moore is playing good football
Reid, known for providing players with the opportunity to earn their place on the team, spoke highly of Moore’s progress during camp.
“Listen, he’s a few years into this thing now,”Reid said.
“Just cut loose and play, and let’s not think through it, go play. And he’s doing a nice job of that. He’s actually playing good football right now.”
Moore’s journey with the Chiefs has been marked by incremental progress.
Drafted in 2022, he played just 29 percent of offensive snaps in his rookie year, which increased to 53 percent in his second year.
However, his statistical output has remained consistent, with 21 and 22 receptions for 250 and 244 yards respectively, and just one touchdown each season.
Despite these modest numbers, Moore is showing promise in training camp.
With the addition of new offensive talents like Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown, Moore’s place on the team is far from guaranteed.
Yet, Reid’s advice to “cut loose” and play without overthinking might be the key to unlocking Moore’s potential.
Moore facing tough challenge at training camp
The Chiefs’ coaching staff is currently evaluating the progress of all players, especially those like Moore who have been on the periphery of the offense.
Consistency and standout performances in camp will be crucial for Moore to secure his spot.
His performances have been a mix of ups and downs, but the arrival of padded practices has seen him make several notable plays.
Moore’s previous season was cut short by a knee injury, leading to his placement on the injured reserve list after the Chiefs’ Week 15 victory over the New England Patriots.
The injury impacted his ability to become a primary target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with Rashee Rice stepping up in his absence.
The Chiefs’ preseason schedule includes games against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 10, the Detroit Lions at home on August 17, and the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
These games will be crucial for Moore as he aims to solidify his place on the team ahead of the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
