Andy Reid’s left tackle options for Patrick Mahomes after Chiefs lose out on Lamar Jackson’s $60M teammate

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing a major challenge at left tackle after missing out on their top free agency target, Ronnie Stanley. The Baltimore Ravens locked in the 30-year-old with a three-year, $60 million deal, shutting the door on Kansas City’s hopes of securing a key piece to protect Patrick Mahomes.

With free agency fast approaching, the Chiefs now have to pivot quickly and explore alternative options to fill the void. Currently, Kingsley Suamataia is the only left tackle on their roster, making this a top priority for head coach Andy Reid and the front office.

Who are the Chiefs’ best options now?

With Stanley staying in Baltimore, the Chiefs must now turn to other available tackles. One potential candidate is Dan Moore Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 25-year-old is set to hit free agency after completing his rookie contract worth $4.8 million. While Moore allowed ten sacks in the last ten games of the 2024 season, he is still young, and under Andy Reid’s coaching, he could develop into a solid asset.

Another interesting option is Cam Robinson from the Minnesota Vikings. Robinson is expected to draw interest from multiple teams, including the New England Patriots. If Kansas City moves fast, they might have a shot at securing his services before the market heats up.

The third potential target is Jaylon Moore from the San Francisco 49ers. At 27, Moore has shown promise despite the Niners‘ struggles last season. He could be an affordable, short-term solution if the Chiefs decide to hold off on a bigger signing.

The fallout from losing Stanley

Losing out on Ronnie Stanley is a tough blow for the Chiefs, as they were reportedly among the teams most interested in acquiring the veteran tackle. The Ravens‘ decision to extend Stanley wasn’t entirely unexpected-ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had reported last week that a deal was likely before free agency.

Stanley played a crucial role in protecting Lamar Jackson last season, allowing just two sacks and helping Baltimore’s offensive line remain one of the best in the league. With a 92% pass-block win rate and a 71 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, he was simply too valuable for the Ravens to let go.

Now, the Chiefs must act fast to secure a reliable left tackle before free agency closes in.
