Could Anthony Edwards dramatically quit the Minnesota Timberwolves to head to the New York Knicks after hinting he would love a dream reunion with Karl-Anthony Towns over in the Big Apple?
The rumors have sparked after the Timberwolves headed to Madison Square Garden for some preseason action ahead of the 2024/25 NBA campaign but suffered a set back as they lost 115-110.
Edwards starred in the win, however, with a 31-point performance whilst for the Knicks, Towns stole the headlines too with a double-double against his former side showing he’s not lost a drop of talent through his relocation.
But things got particularly interesting when a fan called for the 23-year-old to swap Minnesota for New York upon the expiration of his contract as Edwards replied, “I’d definitely love to be reunited with KAT [Towns].”
If he aims to head to the east coast, then there will need to be a big trade offer heading the way of the Timberwolves considering he’s under contract until 2028/2029 and is at the start of a $224m five-year deal.
Additionally, the Timberwolves just made their first NBA Conference Finals in two decades in 2023/24, although they were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks, and Edwards will now inherit the main role in the team after KAT’s trade.
They have also got Julius Randle and Donta DiVincenzo with both making significant boosts to the offensive side of their game.
Randle is known for his small ball game but also his playmaking talents whilst DiVincenzo is an excellent three-point shooter who can regard himself in the same conversation as the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry. So it seems unlikely for the Timberwolves to make a trade.
Who do the Timberwolves play in Week 1?
The Minnesota Timberwolves will kick off the 2024/25 NBA season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, October 23 as Edwards looks to repel LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the Crypto.com Arena.
Tip-off will take place at 22:00 PT/19:00 ET.
