Antonio Pierce’s cryptic message about Davante Adams may give Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid hope

Despite his continued high-level performance, delivering multiple thousand-yard seasons, Davante Adams has faced challenges the Las Vegas Raiders largely due to inconsistent quarterback play. From Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, and recently Gardner Minshew, the revolving door under center has often hampered Adams’ ability to make a game-changing impact.

On Monday, rumors of a potential exit picked up steam when head coach Antonio Pierce liked a social media post quoting NFL analyst Michael Fabiano, suggesting the star wide receiver could be traded mid-season. This subtle yet suggestive move quickly ignited speculation about Adams’ future with the Raiders.

Adams, sidelined in Week 4 due to a hamstring injury, last took the field against the Carolina Panthers, posting a lackluster four-catch, 40-yard performance. Following that 36-22 defeat, Pierce publicly noted that certain players “did not show up,” fueling further discussions about discontent within the roster.

“I feel like, I don’t know, this is tough for me to identify that. I’m not sure,” Adams said when asked if his coach could be referring to him too.

While Fabiano’s comments stoked the fires of a possible trade, not everyone is convinced. NFL insider Adam Schefter weighed in on “The Pat McAfee Show,” stating that Adams is unlikely to be traded, at least to the Kansas City Chiefs, a divisional rival, adding that the Raiders did not entertain trade discussions in the offseason.

Nonetheless, Schefter acknowledged that the situation could evolve as the season progresses and the Raiders look to find their footing.

Potential suitors

Should the Raiders entertain trade offers, Adams could be a highly sought-after asset. The New York Jets have emerged as a natural fit given Adams’ past rapport with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Other potential suitors, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Giants, are all in need of a playmaking wide receiver.
