The Buffalo Bills received a brutal setback on Monday as tight end Armani Rogers suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a training session and will require surgery. This devastating injury marks the second Achilles tear of Rogers’ career and could once again derail his NFL journey.
Buffalo signed Rogers to a reserve/futures contract in January, giving him a shot at earning a roster spot. However, with organized team activities (OTAs) set to begin in mid-May, the loss of Rogers is a tough blow to the Bills’ depth at tight end. While he wasn’t a lock for the final 53-man squad, his versatility and size made him an intriguing prospect.

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Rogers originally played quarterback in college, splitting his career between UNLV and Ohio. Over five seasons, he threw for 2,863 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while also showcasing his athleticism as a dual-threat player, rushing for 2,215 yards and 27 touchdowns on 400 carries.
After going undrafted in 2022, Rogers transitioned to tight end and signed with Washington, where he spent part of his rookie season on injured reserve. However, in May 2023, he suffered his first Achilles tear during a non-contact practice, leading to his eventual release in August 2024.
Rogers has had a very checkered career.
The Eagles quickly claimed him off waivers, but his stint in Philadelphia was short-lived, and he later landed on the Falcons’ practice squad in October.
In his brief NFL career, Rogers has recorded five receptions for 64 yards. The Bills’ tight end group remains led by Dawson Knox, with Dalton Kincaid and Quintin Morris providing depth. Rogers’ injury likely means Buffalo will have to explore other options before training camp.
For Rogers, this latest setback could make his uphill battle even steeper, as another Achilles tear puts his future in serious doubt.
