Predator: Badlands, director Dan Trachtenberg’s third contribution to the Predator franchise (following the 1719-set Prey and the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers, both released through the Hulu streaming service), reached theatres almost four months ago, and is now available to purchase digitally and on disc. But, many fans were likely waiting for its Disney+ and Hulu debut. Now, we finally have a date – it hits the streaming service on February 12th. The film will be available to both Hulu subscribers and Disney+ bundle subscribers in the US, and Disney+ subscribers internationally. It will come bundled with fifteen new creator-themed Predator videos. More on that below!
Was Predator: Badlands a hit?
While not a giant hit, Predator: Badlands became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, with one important caveat: the gross is not adjusted for inflation. Its $91 million domestic total beat Alien vs. Predator’s $80 million, but that movie came out 22 years ago, so in terms of attendance, AVP still has it beat. Worldwide, Predator: Badlands fell just short of the double-century mark with $184 million. It likely broke even at the box office and should become profitable on streaming. Will it be enough to send more Predator movies to theaters rather than streaming?
What are these new “creator” videos?
Here’s how Disney’s press release explains these new Predator creator videos:
Additionally, fans can dive deeper into the Predator franchise with 15 newly added videos in the Predator Creators Collection by pocket.watch on Disney+ and Hulu. This creator-led content complements the full franchise now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, including Dan Trachtenberg’s acclaimed films Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers
