Emily Mayfield, wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, has provided a heartfelt update on their family’s situation after Hurricane Helene devastated the Southeast. Although the Mayfields are safe, Emily expressed her deep concern for those less fortunate in the storm’s aftermath.
Hurricane Helene, which struck the Southeast as a Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds, left behind a path of destruction, particularly in Florida’s Big Bend region.
Massive flooding and landslides isolated parts of Western North Carolina, while millions in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas faced power outages and widespread damage.
The Mayfields are safe
In a recent Instagram post, Emily reassured fans that she, Baker, their daughter, and their dog, Koko, had safely evacuated before the powerful hurricane made landfall. “Baker, Koko, Fergus, and I evacuated yesterday and are safe,” she shared, referring to their precautionary decision to leave Tampa before the storm’s arrival.
Though the Mayfield family’s Tampa home was spared from significant damage, Emily’s focus remains on the communities hardest hit by the storm. “Our sweet, sweet community got pummeled, but even that doesn’t compare to the people up North who took this storm head on. It’s unfathomable,” she wrote.
As Baker prepares to continue his NFL season, Emily is turning her attention to supporting the relief efforts in their new Florida community. “Time to come together and help each other out. I have faith in this community,” she added, urging her followers to share ideas on how to aid in recovery efforts.
Emily asks for support to rebuild Florida
The Mayfields, who relocated to Florida after Baker signed a $100 million, three-year deal with the Buccaneers, have expressed their gratitude for their safety, but their thoughts remain with those still suffering in the storm’s aftermath. Emily is actively seeking ways to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts and is encouraging others to join in rebuilding the devastated areas.
As the Southeast begins the long recovery from the storm, the Mayfields stand ready to help their community rebuild.
