Barcelona reiterates that PSG offered a fortune for Lamine Yamal to replace Mbappe

A bombshell from European soccer revealed on Tuesday that last summer’s transfer window saw PSG attempt to sign Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal in exchange for $264 million, as a way to fill the gap left by the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

In the end, it would all have been an attempt, as Barcelona has all its faith in Lamine and that was the end of the matter. As an anecdote, the club’s president, Joan Laporta, simply referred to some offer, which was finally rejected.

“The president already said that he had an offer of 250 million (euros) that he rejected, that he never considered it,” Masip explained in an interview with several Spanish media outlets. He added:

“When you have money and you can afford it, you can aspire to try to sign everything. Right now he is (Lamine Yamal) the most decisive footballer… Talking about a 17-year-old boy as the best in the world I think is not good for him.”

He also acknowledged the evolution of his young figure and his specific weight in the Blaugrana club: “It’s different… What Lamine does is something you saw in Messi, something different from everyone else. What Vinicius can do, Mbappe can do, players with that speed, with that quality, but it’s different. Can he be the best in the world? Yes, but it’s better to keep calm”. Finally, he said that “his arrival at Barca was like a lottery”.

“Well, I wouldn’t say it’s like a lottery, but it’s the year that Mbappe decides to go to Real Madrid, which was the icing on the cake for a championship-winning team, and you get a 16-year-old boy who wins the European Championship and becomes a worldwide phenomenon in a very short time,” he said.

PSG categorically denies offer for Yamal

However, PSG rejected any rumours coming from the Catalan board about this alleged offer. According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, an official source from the club “categorically” denied that there was any offer for the 17-year-old.

In fact, this is the second time that the club has denied any approach for Lamine and they only accepted that only the club’s sporting director, Luis Campos, approached Lamine’s representative, Jorge Mendes, to find out about the player’s situation, but in an informal way and as part of the friendship they share.

The French source indicated that it is very clear that Lamine Yamal is going to stay for several years at Barcelona, so they have not taken any steps in this direction and that is why in the last year, such an offer never existed.
