This offseason saw an almost unprecedented amount of change in the NFL coaching sphere. 10 different head coach positions opened up, some in stunning fashion with the retirement of Mike Tomlin plus the firings of John Harbaugh and Sean McDermott. As February nears, two vacancies remain.

The Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders are the only two franchises left without a head coach. While it may be taken as both teams being patient, it says more about how unattractive both landing spots are. The options have thinned out, with the most recent news regarding the Raiders’ job hitting Tom Brady‘s search hard.

Davis Webb would rather stay in Denver than be head coach of the Raiders

Davis Webb, the current offensive pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the Denver Broncos, withdrew his name from the Raiders’ head coach hiring process this week. Webb was considered a top candidate for the position, so his decision has sparked plenty of discussion. The fact that Webb would rather stay in Denver and potentially land a better head coach job next offseason is telling.

It sounds like the Raiders missed out on the best remaining option, too. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix recently spoke about Webb and was brimming with praise for his QBs coach.

Klint Kubiak is the next best option for Raiders, but Cardinals want him too

Las Vegas had the chance to weaken a division opponent while also getting an in-demand, rising young coach. Thankfully, not all is lost for Brady and the Raiders. Klint Kubiak appears to be the next best candidate.

The only problem is that Kubiak is being highly considered by the Cardinals for their opening as well. If the Raiders lose Kubiak to the Cardinals, there’s no telling who Las Vegas will end up with.
