Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix made a surprising revelation on Monday: he played through three fractured transverse processes in his back during part of the 2024 season. The injury occurred in the first half of the November 24 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The transverse process is a small bone that extends from both sides of the vertebrae. While injuries to this area are painful, they are typically not career-threatening. Despite the discomfort, Nix played through the pain and still delivered an impressive performance.

“Yeah, I tweaked it a little-three fractures in the transverse processes. A lot of guys play through things like that,” Nix shared.
Even with the injury, Nix threw two touchdowns in the second half of the Raiders game, leading the Broncos to a 29-19 win. He received treatment the following week and emphasized his determination to stay on the field.
“I wasn’t going to miss my first Monday Night Football game,” Nix explained. “They treated me, and luckily, we had a bye week right after. It was bothersome, but everyone plays through something.”
A record-breaking rookie season
Despite his back injury, Nix had a remarkable rookie year. He didn’t miss a single game, ending the season with a Broncos rookie record of 3,775 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. His efforts also helped Denver secure their first playoff berth since 2015.
One standout performance came on December 2 against the Cleveland Browns, where Nix threw for 294 yards and a 93-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr., leading the team to a 41-32 victory.
