Brandon McManus’s sexual assault storm stakes a twist: Was it fuelled by alcohol?

The NFL world was rocked by the news that Brandon McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars are being sued for an accusation of sexual assault relating to the London games in 2023, but now it has taken another twist as it’s insinuated alcohol is involved.

The kicker, who now plays for the Washington Commanders, is said to have grinded on two flight attendants inappropriately after turning their flight into a party. As a result they are suing for a million dollars from both McManus and the Jaguars, as they claim the organization lost control of the event.

The policy of the NFL is that alcohol isn’t allowed to be on a flight at all, which would mean that the Jaguars franchise are in breach of their rules making it a far graver issue for them than initially expected if the League announces an investigation.

“The complaint uses the word ‘drinking’ or ‘drink’ three times,” Mike Florio said for ProFootballTalk. “And the clear implication is that it wasn’t water.

“Moreover, it’s our understanding that witnesses will say alcohol was brought by Jaguars players onto the plane. This becomes a problem for the Jaguars because alcohol is strictly prohibited, by league policy, on team property or during team travel.”

What is the NFL’s substance abuse policy?

The NFL’s substance abuse policy will mainly draw thoughts of performance enhancing drugs or recreational drugs, but it also includes alcohol and covers player’s running into sticky situations with the law as a result of excessive consumption.

Agreed upon by the NFL Players’ Association in June 2014, the document is binding and lists penalties and appeals processes that McManus could possibly explore if the lawsuit is not dismissed.

“Players are prohibited from the use, possession, or distribution of illegal drugs, as well as the abuse of prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and alcohol.

The policy also adds, “Each NFL team has a Team Substance Abuse Physician who oversees the progress of all intervention program participants. The intervention program is reviewed quarterly to ensure that the program successfully meets player needs.”
