The search for the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders appears to be narrowing, and momentum is building around Brian Daboll.
Several weeks after speculation linked Brian Flores and Daboll to a potential coaching tandem in Las Vegas, it now appears that only one of those paths remains viable, and Daboll is very much in the mix.
According to multiple reports, the Raiders have formally interviewed Daboll for their head-coaching vacancy. While early rumors suggested that Flores could arrive as head coach with Daboll installed as offensive coordinator, that scenario has since cooled.
The reasons for the shift have not been publicly clarified, but league observers believe the organization’s focus has clearly pivoted toward Daboll as the primary candidate.
Daboll’s winning history
One factor working heavily in Daboll‘s favor is his extensive history with the New England Patriots during the playing career of Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.
Daboll worked multiple stints in New England, first as a defensive assistant from 2000 to 2001. He then transitioned to the offensive side of the ball, serving as wide receivers coach from 2002 through 2006.
Years later, Daboll returned to the organization as tight ends coach from 2013 to 2016. Across those tenures, Daboll was part of five Super Bowl-winning teams, a rsum point that carries weight within ownership circles.
His familiarity with the Patriots’ organizational standards – and his prior working relationship with Tom Brady – is widely viewed as a meaningful asset as the Las Vegas Raiders attempt to establish long-term stability.
The disappearance of Flores from contention has raised questions. While no official explanation has been offered, some around the league have pointed to blunt public remarks made by former Minnesota Vikings assistant coach Mike Pettine.
Those comments, while not directly tied to the Raiders’ decision-making process, may have influenced perceptions during a critical evaluation window.
Adding to the complexity, Daboll has also interviewed with the Buffalo Bills, where he is considered by some insiders to be a strong candidate.
The Josh Allen effect
His previous success in Buffalo remains a significant part of his coaching narrative. From 2018 through 2021, Daboll served as offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, overseeing the dramatic development of quarterback Josh Allen.
Under Daboll‘s guidance, Allen evolved from a raw prospect into one of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons. He also led Jaxson Dart down a similar path with the New York Giants.
That track record continues to resonate with teams seeking offensive-minded leadership, particularly those looking to build around or stabilize the quarterback position.
For the Raiders, the appeal of Daboll extends beyond play design. His experience navigating multiple organizations, managing star talent, and operating within championship-level infrastructures aligns with what the franchise is seeking at this juncture.
With ownership intent on reshaping the team’s identity, Daboll offers both pedigree and adaptability.
While competition from the Bills remains a factor, the Raiders‘ willingness to bring Daboll in for an interview signals genuine interest.
As the coaching carousel continues to turn, all signs suggest that Daboll has positioned himself as one of the most serious contenders for the job and could be tasked with guiding the Raiders into their next era.
