Priority number one for the Dallas Cowboys and Brian Schottenheimer this NFL offseason? Keep Micah Parsons at the AT&T Stadium and that’s something the new head coach is keen to do, although he warns the 25-year-old could quit.
Mighty! Micah Parsons channels his inner beast with real-life lion
Parsons is widely agreed to be the best linebacker in the NFL and has been a key part of protecting the defense and sacking rival quarterbacks in the Cowboys’ quests to win the NFC East and reach a Super Bowl.
However, with his rookie deal almost up, he’s set to earn a lot of money going forwards and plenty of teams will be interested, although his first thoughts are to stay in Arlington.
“Micah has said all along that he plans on being there,” Schottenheimer told NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. “Again, it’s a business, right?
“There’s a lot of factors that go into a deal. There are two sides in every negotiation, it’s not just our side, it’s Micah’s side.
“This is an opportunity for Micah, especially, with some of the guys that we lost as leadership for Micah to step up.
“He’s excited about that. He wants to have more leadership responsibility. So, again, we have a ton of time, and we’ll take it day-by-day.
“Again, my conversations with Micah have been great and I think he’s in a good spot. It’s business, as he understands.”
Parsons had said he hoped to have a new deal wrapped up by March, but as we head into April there is no sign of that happening although this isn’t bad news for Cowboys fans.
Stephen Jones, son of Jerry Jones, said he feels good about keeping the talented defensive player around to retain the fearsome trio including Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb all together.
“I don’t want to get into any details,” Jones said, via Todd Archer. “It’s not fair for anybody, other than we’ve got a great working relationship with Micah and think the world of him.
“Like I’ve said, we’ve had good visits with him and feel good about where we’re headed. I’m not going to get into any detail on where things are, and how far along we are or anything like that. It’s not productive.”
