Bronny James’ breakout game has Lakers wondering if they should protect him for upcoming important games

Bronny James‘ decision to leave USC after just one season – a mediocre season at that – was criticized by many. Despite Bronny obviously not being truly ready for the NBA, he didn’t have much time to waste. He wanted to play with his father, LeBron James, before the legendary player retires. LeBron is still going strong, but he could decide to hang up his basketball shoes at any moment.

Thankfully for the James family, the Los Angeles Lakers made the father-son duo’s dreams come true by drafting Bronny in the second round over the summer. Bronny got on to the court with his father during an NBA game in a heartwarming moment at the beginning of the season, but Bronny’s lack of experience has forced him to watch from the bench for some games, or play for the team’s developmental G-League squad, the South Bay Lakers.

Bronny James scores 30 points for Lakers’ G-League team

Bronny hadn’t shined for South Bay and also dealt with an injury, but on Thursday night, he showed off his family pedigree. The guard scored 30 points in the best performance of his young career, shooting 13 of 23 from the field.

James’ big game could possibly see him come back into the fold for the NBA side, as the Lakers aren’t sure if to send Bronny to the upcoming G-League Showcase or not.

The G-League Winter Showcase features 31 games across four different days. It would be a great chance for Bronny to get more playing time and it would be a cool experience 20-year-old, but the Lakers might need him.

JJ Redick‘s team is currently dealing with injuries, as is every NBA team really, so James may be needed for depth over the coming weeks. The Lakers have seven games before the end of the year, including games on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
