Bryce James gets emotional when talking about Bronny’s cardiac arrest: It’s amazing to see him play with his dad

LeBron James’ world stopped when his son, Bronny, collapsed in July 2023 after suffering a heart attack, and Bryce James revealed his pride in his brother that he managed to recover from the scary incident.

Bronny was practicing for the USC Trojans when he suffered the cardiac arrest at the Galen Center and was rushed to emergency hospital, where he spent three days before being released, almost ending his NBA career before it even started.

But he managed to recover and made his Trojans debut in December the same year, before being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers 11 months on from the health scare, partnering up with his dad in California.

It’s a story of true strength of character as the 19-year-old fought back from the brink to make his NBA dream come to life, and his father’s dream of playing professionally with one of his sons.

And Bryce James, brother of Bronny, celebrated the recovery from his fraternal partner at the Peach Jam Tournament.

“It’s a great feeling just knowing that my brother, [and] the journey that he’s had,” Bronny James told reporters. “[He] just came that far from the cardiac arrest to all the difficulties that he has had in his, in his career in college…

“It’s amazing to see him, play with his dad. I have always looked at him, of course, he is my big brother. It was definitely a great experience just seeing how far he’s came, like the journey that he had to go through.

“Being in the gym with him it’s always a good time. And then also off the court, just being around him, being with him and then hearing his name get called. It’s all surreal.”

Dream come true for LeBron

Bronny could make his NBA debut on the same court as his dad in the 2024/25 season if new head coach, JJ Redick, decides to give him the nod at the Crypto.com Arena in what will be a memorable moment for the family.

It will also be a historic moment for the NBA too, as they will become the first father-son duo to hit ever hit the court together as LeBron realizes one of his own dreams.

“Obviously it’s a dream come true,” LeBron told media in June 2024. “For me, to see my son be able to be in the NBA alone, it’s always been a dream of his.

“For us to be there side by side, words are lost, let’s be honest. The kid has worked so hard to get back to this point. Just so much has happened over the last year with him.”
