When the Buffalo Bills brought in Amari Cooper this season, it felt like they’d hit the jackpot. A proven playmaker, a four-time Pro Bowler, and a guy who could go toe-to-toe with the league’s best corners-this was supposed to be a game-changer for Buffalo’s Super Bowl aspirations.
Fast forward to the playoffs, and things haven’t exactly gone as planned. Cooper’s numbers have been shockingly low: just two catches for eight yards in two postseason games. Against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round? A big, fat zero in the reception column. Not exactly what you’d expect from someone of Cooper’s pedigree.

“Amari’s doing a great job at embracing his role in this offense,”Brady told reporters this week.“Sometimes it’s not about the stats. It’s about what he does just being on the field-drawing coverage, opening things up for the other guys. He knows that.”

To be fair, Brady’s explanation makes sense. Buffalo’s offense thrives on versatility and unpredictability. Stefon Diggs is the clear number one, and guys like Gabe Davis and tight end Dalton Kincaid have made big plays when it counts. But at some point, you’ve got to wonder: why trade for a star receiver if you’re not going to use him as a star?

Josh Allen will need all the help he can get to outduel Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs’ secondary isn’t invincible, and Cooper’s route-running ability should, in theory, give Allen a reliable target. But if the Bills keep treating him like a supporting character, it’s hard to see them getting past the Chiefs.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky put it bluntly: “If Amari Cooper doesn’t show up, the Bills might as well start packing for the offseason. You can’t have a guy like him out there and not use him when everything’s on the line.“
