There are many ways to try to keep Caitlin Clark quiet on a basketball court but the one the WNBA seems to keep turning to is being physically aggressive, leading to Draymond Green to finally call for extra protection to the 2024 Draft’s first pick.
It comes after Clark suffered another aggressive play against her by Chennedy Carter during a 71-70 victory over the Chicago Sky, which wasn’t called as a flagrant foul by the referees, despite leaving fans outraged. Clark herself even said that kind of defense wasn’t basketball.
And now even the NBA players are beginning to take notice as the Golden State Warriors‘ Green calls for the Fever to offer her extra protection to prevent her from getting hurt or injured whilst she tries to pull them up the Eastern Conference.
“Indiana better go invest in an enforcer… FAST!” Green wrote on Instagram, calling for her teammates to begin to back up their star player on the court.
An enforcer is a player who is happy to take the knocks and hits from rivals if it means that one of the team’s best players can continue to do their thing without suffering repeated fouls against them, especially rough fouls.
Carter‘s foul on Clark was completely unnecessary and off-the-ball, with the 22-year-old not even looking likely to contest for a play at the moment of the foul. In all seriousness, she could have probably been thrown out of the game for it.
Instead, she got away with a common foul and continued to remain on the court although Clark had the last laugh by securing the win.
Fever edge Sky
The Fever claimed just their second win of the season with a one-point victory over Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky outfit at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, although they had to hang on in the final quarter.
After taking a 54-49 lead in the opening three quarters, Clark‘s side knew a win was close and maybe they felt the pressure as they allowed the Sky to shoot for over 20 points for the first time in the game.
Fortunately, they did enough to get over the line with one point to spare as the Sky won the final quarter 21-17, allowing the Fever to close within one win of the Sky who are now below .500 for the season.
