Even though it was not the best performance by the USC Trojans against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, there was a very special moment to honor their former quarterback Caleb Williams.
The University of Southern California has retired the current Chicago Bears signal caller’s number 13 jersey and it is now displayed on the Los Angeles Coliseum’s peristyle.
With this, USC has now retired another number to go alongside th rest of the Heisman Trophy winners, ones that include O.J. Simpson’s number 32, as the university has only retired those who have one the honorable recognition.
The special moment in Los Angeles
The university’s authorities were in attendance for the announcement and it was special. “Home of the Heismans!” USC athletic director Jen Cohen wrote on social media.
“More Heisman Trophy winners than any other university. Let’s go #5 and #13… Can’t wait to celebrate you,” he added while the crowd went crazy. overall,illiams spent two seasons with the program winning the trophy in 2022 and being selected number one overall in the NFL draft.
The university also restored the number 5 jersey that belong to Reggie Bush, as it was taken down after all the allegations that led to him being accused of illegal endorsements when he was in college.
