Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are the highest ranked quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and they are early contenders for the rookie of the year award next season.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback had one of the best college football seasons in recent history. He won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, recognizing him for being a player that exceleed in academics, athletics and character.

And as for the former Miami Hurricanes standout, he delivered one of the best seasons by a quarterback in program’s decorated history at position. He won the 2024 Davey O’Brien Award, recognizing the nation’s top player. He was also the first Heisman Trophy winner finalist from Miami since 2002.
Sanders and Ward pick who would they like to throw the ball to
Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward attended the NFL Combine this week and they had their first approach to the league’s experience as a football player, which includes complying with media interviews and dynamics that shape their personal brand.
During one of the interactions with the league, Sanders and Ward – among other young football talents – were asked which famous person would they like to throw the ball to, either dead or alive. The answers we got are very interesting and say a lot about the quarterbacks.
Sanders said that he would play catch with his dad, head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes and NFL Hall of FamerDeion Sanders. “He’s always been there for me… legendary!” “Coach Prime” has been a big part of Shedeur‘s success, allowing the young quarterback to develop into one of the best players in the nation.
Ward’s answer? The NBA legend Kobe Bryant, one of the most iconic basketball players. “He’s one of my idols, I want to see what he’s like on the football field. Bryant, who was born in Philadelphia but grew up overseas, was a big fan of soccer but no so much about football.
Will Cam Ward be the number one pick?
NFL.com deputy editor Gennaro Filice believes that Cam Ward will be the No.1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Tennessee Titans selecting the Miami Hurricanes as their quarterback and the future of a franchise that has not being able to find a superstar at that position.
“The well-traveled 22-year-old offers extensive experience (57 collegiate starts) and the best quarterbacking tools in this class (most notably, a rocket that’s functional from various platforms/arm angles). The question with Ward: Is he too reliant on hero ball to consistently function in the confines of an NFL offense?” Filice wrote.

How about Shedeur Sanders? According to the analyst, the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback will be selected No. 5 overall, with his next team being the New York Jets, a team that recently let go of troubling superstar Aaron Rodgers.
“The Jets have a talented roster without a quarterback. At the moment, the free-agent crop at the position is headlined by Sam Darnold. Don’t think a Darnold-Jets reunion is on the table, so Gang Green leapfrogs the QB-needy Raiders to snag a signal-caller who certainly wouldn’t shy away from the bright lights of Broadway. New York tabloids rejoice.” added Filice.
