Cameron Brink reveals Stephen Curry’s mother’s dark past: “She knocked out a guy while pregnant”

They say talent skips a generation. Cameron Brink and Stephen Curry are two of the best basketball players of this century, but there’s one talent their mothers possess that they don’t, or at least haven’t displayed: the ability to kick some serious butt.

Michelle Brink and Sonya Curry-mothers of Cameron and Stephen, respectively-have been friends for decades, as have their sons. Cameron and Sydel Curry, sister of Stephen and Seth, even co-host the podcast “Straight to Cam,” where the two discuss current events in the WNBA, NBA, and NCAA.

Her most recent episode, however, took a somewhat more personal turn when Cameron revealed that Sonya Curry once knocked down and punched a man who attacked Michelle Brink, all while she was pregnant with Stephen.

Sonya is a force to be reckoned with

The conversation began when Sydel made a very personal revelation. “I can’t fight,” admitted the youngest Curry. “I’ve never been in a fight in my life.” She recalled that the only time she’s ever fought was with her brother Seth “over saltwater taffy.”

That’s when Cameron jumped in with a revelation that caused astonishment and laughter among their followers. “Your mom can fight,” Brink blurted, leading the two to share a couple of stories that prove Sonya is a force to be reckoned with.

Brink recalled that her mother once went on a dancing date with Sonya and her husband, Dell Curry. At one point, Michelle tripped over a man, “and he literally shoved her so hard that it ripped her shirt. Dell stepped in and hit the guy.” But it didn’t end there.

“Sonya was pregnant with Steph,” Brink clarified. “Oh, no. Not the golden child,” Curry replied, amused. “My mom looks over,” Cameron continued, “and she [Sonya] is on top of him hitting this man… pregnant!” Laughing, the Los Angeles Sparks star assured, “Sonya can fight, you can fight.”

No one is safe from Sonya Curry

That wasn’t the only time the Curry mother showed she’s not someone to be taken lightly. “Our moms have been best friends for 40 years,” Sydel recalled, as a prelude to an anecdote in which she recounted how Sonya subdued Michelle in a sleeper hold during a friendly fight.

Curry ended the story by triumphantly stating, “I think my mom won though.”Brink had no choice but to admit that Sonya “for sure” won, making it clear that when it comes to standing her ground, Sonya Curry never backs down and never surrenders.
