Charles Barkley comes out swinging and lays bare Bronny James’ harsh reality in the NBA

The NBA legend, Charles Barkley, has weighed in on the Bronny James conundrum as the 20-year-old Los Angeles Laker struggles to adapt to life as a professional and is sent to the G League instead.

The son of LeBron had a tough time on offense through the Summer League after being picked in the second round by JJ Redick‘s team, although he is praised for his workrate and defense talents.

So the point guard can’t be trusted on the court next to his dad and Anthony Davis at the moment, meaning he is heading to the development leagues, where he will play for the South Bay Lakers when they’re in California.

So for the 61-year-old pundit and analyst, who was an 11-time NBA All-Star and the 1993 MVP, he thinks it’s the right call for the future of the youngster.

“I think he needs to go to the G League so he can get better as a basketball player,” Barkley told The Dan Patrick Show. “He’s not going to get better sitting on the bench.

He needs to play basketball… The only way you get better at playing any sport is playing that sport.

“I think it’s a great story, it’s great for LeBron, but he needs to go to the G League to learn how to get better as a basketball player.”

Bronny’s NBA struggles

His stats in college with the USC Trojans of 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 25 games were not particularly impressive anyway, despite his fight back from cardiac arrest, although his 2.1 steals were pretty solid.

So with that benefit of the doubt in mind, he was given a shot in the NBA, as he and his dad became the first ever father-son duo, but once again he proved to be unimpressive.

He maintained 0.7 points, 0.7 assists and 0.3 rebounds in 2.7 minutes per game.
